Job description

The Environment Agency is establishing a Project Delivery Profession Office as a centre of excellence to strengthen capability, consistency and professional standards across our project delivery community.

As the Project Delivery Capability Advisor, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering the profession’s capability agenda. Working closely with the Profession Office Manager and Head of Profession, you will support the development of capability assessments, learning pathways, career frameworks and professional accreditation arrangements.

This is a professional role with clear ownership of the insight, training and career framework elements of the Project Delivery Profession. You will oversee the use of data and evidence to inform capability decisions, shape and maintain learning and development pathways, and ensure career frameworks remain relevant, inclusive and aligned to organisational and government standards.

The role requires confidence in influencing stakeholders and managing priorities. It offers the opportunity to influence how project delivery capability is developed and supported across the Environment Agency, contributing directly to improved delivery outcomes and a stronger professional identity.

Everyone who joins us is required to undertake training and participate in incident response duties when the need to respond arises. Having an incident role is an essential part of working for the Environment Agency and an active way to support communities and prevent harm to the environment. Further information on incident response can be found within your candidate pack.

The Team:
The Project Delivery Profession Office is a newly established function acting as a centre of excellence for project delivery across the Environment Agency. Its primary objective is to support the Head of Profession by strengthening professional standards, capability and assurance. The team focuses on developing and maintaining frameworks for governance, learning and career pathways, providing insight through data and reporting, and enabling a connected, high-performing project delivery community aligned to government standards.
Experience/Skills Required:

You will have experience supporting or delivering capability development, learning, standards or professional frameworks within a project, programme or operational environment. You will be confident using data, insight or feedback to identify capability needs and translate these into practical actions or recommendations.

You will bring strong organisational and analytical skills, with experience of coordinating activities, managing priorities and working across multiple stakeholders. The ability to influence, advise and collaborate effectively is essential.

You should be comfortable working with a degree of autonomy, taking ownership of defined areas of work and contributing to the delivery of wider professional or organisational objectives. Experience of working within governance, assurance or reporting processes, or supporting professional communities, would be advantageous.
